Early crowd analysis meant counting heads in camera frames. Research in congestion detection and flow prediction — published across IEEE and ACM venues — gave operators something they never had: foresight.
From understanding to intervention
Understanding a crowd is only half the problem; the other half is acting early. Scheduling research — optimising when and where groups move — became the foundation of Tafweej, which scheduled 2M+ pilgrims across Hajj seasons 2019–2023, and shuttle-optimisation research for the Mashaer area smoothed transport at peak flow.
